The fastest way to build a template is to start from a deal room that already worked. Spekit copies the room into a new template and leaves the original room untouched.
ℹ️ Anyone who can open a deal room can create a template from it. What happens next depends on your role. Admin templates start as drafts. Templates created by Experts and Viewers are private and ready to use right away.
ℹ️ Deal Room Templates are available in the Spekit Hub (Web App) today. Support in the Sidekick (Chrome Extension) and Spekit MCP is coming soon.
1. Create the template
- Open the deal room you want to turn into a template.
- In the room header, select the ... menu.
- Choose Create template from this Deal Room.
- Enter a Template name. This is required.
- For Admins: Select the teams that should have access, or select All Teams.
- Select Create template.
💡 Pro Tip: Name the template for the job it does, not the deal it came from. "Enterprise security review" tells a rep when to use it. "Acme renewal" does not.
2. What gets copied
The window lists exactly what the template will take from the room, so you know before you create it.
| Copied | Copied |
|---|---|
| Header image | Content |
| Header text | Featured content |
| Sections | Internal content |
ℹ️ Internal content is copied too. Check that nothing in it is specific to the original customer before you share the template with your team.
3. What does not get copied
A template is a starting point, not a clone of the deal. A few things stay behind on purpose.
| Not copied | Why |
|---|---|
| Access controls | You set these fresh each time you create a room from the template |
| The original deal room | It is unchanged. Creating a template does not move or archive it |
| Buyer activity and analytics | Those belong to the original room |
4. What happens next
Where the template goes depends on who created it.
| Your role | What happens |
|---|---|
| Account Admin | The template is created as a draft. Choose an audience and publish it before reps can use it |
| Team Admin | Same as above, but you can only publish to teams you manage |
| Expert | The template is private to you and ready to use right away |
| Viewer | The template is private to you and ready to use right away |
Your new template appears on the Templates tab of the Deal Rooms page.
5. Use cases
These are the 3 situations where creating from a room beats building from scratch.
| Situation | What to do |
|---|---|
| A deal room that closed well | Turn it into a template and use it for the next deal in that motion. No more cloning and deleting the last customer's details by hand |
| A room you rebuild every quarter | Make the repeatable parts a template once, then start every new one from it |
| A room a teammate praised | If you are an admin, template it and publish it so the whole team starts from the same shape |
💡 Pro Tip: Template the room right after the deal closes, while you still remember which sections the buyer actually opened.
6. Best practices
A template is read by people who were not in the deal, so it needs to make sense without you explaining it.
| Best practice | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Clean the room before you template it | Whatever is in the room becomes the starting point for every future deal |
| Remove customer names from headers and section titles | A rep who forgets to change one of these sends it to the next buyer |
| Keep the structure, trim the volume | Reps delete less than they add. A tight template gets used more than a full one |
| Check the internal content | It carries over, and it is the easiest place for private notes to hide |
| Use it once yourself before telling the team | You catch what is missing faster than they will tell you |
