Build a template from a blank page when no existing deal room is close enough to start from. You add the header, the sections and the content once, and every room made from it starts there.
ℹ️ If a deal room already has most of what you need, start there instead. See Create a Deal Room Template from a Deal Room.
ℹ️ Deal Room Templates are available in the Spekit Hub (Web App) today. Support in the Sidekick (Chrome Extension) and Spekit MCP is coming soon.
1. Start a blank template
There are 2 ways to open a blank template. Both land you in the same builder.
| Where | How |
|---|---|
| Deal Rooms page | Open the Templates tab and select the Create a new template tile |
| + New menu | Choose Create a Deal Room Template |
If you are an admin, your new template opens with a Draft label at the top.
2. Name your template
A new template is called Untitled template until you rename it.
Select the pencil icon beside the title and enter a name.
💡 Pro Tip: Name it for the situation a rep is in. "Enterprise security review" or "Renewal business review" beats "Template 2".
3. Set up the header
The header is the first thing a buyer sees, so build it once here and every room inherits it.
| Element | What it does |
|---|---|
| Header image | The banner across the top of the room. Select Edit on the image to change it |
| Your logo and Buyer logo | The buyer logo slot stays empty in the template. The rep fills it in for their deal |
| Headline | The main line of the room. Select the pencil icon to edit |
| Description (optional) | Supporting line under the headline |
💡 Pro Tip: Write the headline so a rep only has to swap 1 or 2 words. A line that needs a full rewrite usually gets left as is.
4. Add sections and content
You build the template on the Template builder tab. The Content panel on the left is where you add and arrange everything.
| Control | What it does |
|---|---|
| + Section | Adds a new section to the template |
| + Content | Adds content into the template |
| Drag handle | Reorders items in the list |
Build the sections the way you want a finished room to look. A rep starting from your template will fill it in, not restructure it.
ℹ️ On a brand new template you will see Customize your template with an + Add content button, which does the same job as + Content.
5. Preview, then publish or use
Preview shows the template the way a rep will see it before anyone commits to it. Select Preview in the top right.
What happens next depends on your role.
| Your role | What you see in the header |
|---|---|
| Account Admin or Team Admin | An Audience field and a Publish button. Pick the teams, then publish. See Publish a Deal Room Template to your teams |
| Expert or Viewer | Use template. Your template is private to you and ready to use right away. There is no audience to pick |
6. Use cases
Building from scratch is worth the effort in these 3 cases.
| Situation | Why from scratch |
|---|---|
| A new motion with no past rooms | There is no good room to copy yet, so you define what good looks like |
| A stage-specific room | A short, focused room for one stage is faster to build than to carve out of a full deal room |
| A product line or persona room | You want the sections to match the product or the buyer, not the last deal you ran |
7. Best practices
A template built from scratch is only as good as the structure you give it.
| Best practice | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Sketch the sections before you open the builder | You are designing a buying experience, not a folder |
| Build for the buying committee, not the rep | Sections by theme or persona guide the buyer. Sections by file type do not |
| Leave the buyer logo slot empty | That is the rep's job, and an empty slot reminds them to do it |
| Fill every section with something | A rep copies what they see. An empty section teaches them to ship empty sections |
| Keep the set small | 5 templates reps actually use beat 20 nobody can choose between |
💡 Pro Tip: Clone a Spekit template and edit the copy instead of starting blank. You keep a proven structure and only change what does not fit your team.
