Test comprehension before learners move on by adding a Knowledge Check at any point in your Learning Path. You can write the questions yourself, generate them with AI, or reuse a Knowledge Check you already published.
ℹ️ Note: A Knowledge Check added to a Learning Path behaves like any other item in the path. You can place it inside a section and drag it into position.
1. How to add a Knowledge Check
- Open the Learning Path in the Spekit Hub (Web App).
- In the Content panel, click + Content. To place it inside a section, click the + button on that section's row instead.
- Select Test with a Knowledge Check (quiz).
- Choose how to add the Knowledge Check:
| Option | What it does |
|---|---|
| Create from scratch | Write your own questions and answers. |
| Generate with AI | Let AI write questions based on your content. |
| Add existing | Select from your published Knowledge Checks. |
2. How to build the questions
- Enter a title. Keep it clear and descriptive. This is what learners see.
- Add an intro page (optional). Use it to tell learners what the check covers before they start.
- Add your questions. You can add up to 20 questions per check, in 2 formats:
| Format | How it works |
|---|---|
| Single Select | Up to 4 options, only 1 is correct. Good for true or false, and for definitive process steps. |
| Multiple Select | Up to 4 options, at least 1 is correct. The learner must select every correct option to pass the question. |
- Set the pass mark. Define the minimum number of correct answers needed to pass.
- Click Save to publish the Knowledge Check.
💡 Pro Tip: Generate with AI gets you a first draft fast, but always read every question before you save. AI can write a question that is technically correct and still confusing to a new hire.
3. Where to place a Knowledge Check
Placement changes what the check actually measures.
This table explains the common placements.
| Placement | What it tests |
|---|---|
| End of a section | Whether the learner understood that stage before moving on. This is the most common use. |
| End of the path | Overall certification. Good for compliance and onboarding sign-off. |
| Start of the path | What the learner already knows. Useful for spotting who can skip ahead. |
ℹ️ Note: Once a path is published, the Analytics tab shows how many learners completed each item, including each Knowledge Check. A check at the end of a section tells you whether that stage landed.
4. Best practices
Use these habits to write checks people learn from.
| Best practice | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Bookend each section with 1 check | It moves the learner from passive reading to active recall, which improves retention. |
| Keep checks short | 3 to 5 questions per section beats 20 questions at the end. Learners finish short checks. |
| Test the decision, not the wording | Ask what a rep should do in a situation. Do not ask them to recall an exact phrase. |
| Set a realistic pass mark | Too high and learners disengage. Too low and the check proves nothing. |
| Review results after 2 weeks | A question everyone gets wrong is usually a bad question, not a knowledge gap. |
