The Spekit MCP Connector links your governed Spekit content to the AI tool you already use. You can search, cite, and create Spekit content without leaving the conversation. One server URL works across every AI tool that supports custom connectors, so you do not need a separate integration project for each platform.
ℹ️ The connector does not give you any access you did not already have. Every call runs as you, scoped to your existing Spekit role.
1. What the connector is
Your team already spends the day inside an AI assistant. Until now that assistant had no view into what Spekit knows. Reps left their flow to find an approved answer, and anything drafted in a conversation stayed in that conversation.
The connector closes that gap. The same knowledge, the same permissions, and the same governance Spekit already provides become available inside the AI tool your team is already using.
One connector, every AI tool. You connect once, with one server URL. The same connector works across every AI tool that supports custom connectors and dynamic registration. Today that includes Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini CLI, Codex CLI, and Gong.
ℹ️ The MCP Connector is not the same as the Spekit API. The connector is for people working in an AI tool. The API is for developers building their own integration. See the Spekit API Overview.
2. What you can do with it
The connector gives your AI tool two sets of tools: read tools for finding and using content, and write tools for creating and updating it.
🔎 Find and use content (read tools)
Get approved answers and browse your library without switching apps.
| Tool | What it does |
|---|---|
| Get authenticated user | Returns your identity so the calls that follow are scoped to your account. |
| List topics | Returns the Topics you can access, with their direct subtopics. |
| Get topic | Returns a Topic's parents and subtopics, so you can go deeper. |
| Search content | Keyword search across all Speks you can access. |
| List topic content | Returns the Speks filed under a specific Topic. |
| Get content | Returns a single Spek's full body and its Topic assignments. |

✍️ Create and manage content (write tools)
Draft and update governed content from a conversation, with no copy and paste back into Spekit.
| Tool | What it does |
|---|---|
| Create topic | Creates a Topic, optionally as a subtopic of an existing one. |
| Create content | Creates a new Spek, filed under one or more Topics. |
| Create content from template | Creates a new Spek from one of your company's templates. |
| Update content | Updates the title, body, or Topic assignment of an existing Spek. |
| Create company | Creates a new company. |
| Create deal room | Creates a Deal Room under an existing company. |
| Create deal room content | Creates a Spek scoped to a specific Deal Room. |

💡 Pro Tip: One request can run several steps. A request to build a launch content set can read your approved messaging, then draft and create each piece in turn, in order, from that one request.
3. How permissions work
Every call runs as you. What you can see and do through the connector matches what your Spekit account can already see and do.
This is enforced in the Spekit backend, not just in the connector. A viewer-only user cannot create or change content through an AI tool, even by asking for it.
For what is stored, what is sent, and how data is handled, see Spekit MCP Data Privacy & Security FAQs.
4. Who can use it
Access depends on your AI tool, and in some tools on your plan or admin role. In every case you sign in with your existing Spekit login.
| AI tool | What you need |
|---|---|
| Claude | Team and Enterprise need an Owner or Primary owner to add the connector first. Pro and Max users can add it themselves. |
| ChatGPT | Available on Pro, Business, Enterprise, and Education. Write tools are limited to Business, Enterprise, and Education. |
| Gemini CLI | Gemini CLI installed and a terminal. This is a developer-tool connection, not a settings screen. |
| Gong | A Gong Tech admin. Available on any Gong plan. |
| Any other tool | Support for custom connectors by URL and dynamic registration. |
5. Get connected
🔗 The server URL
https://mcp.spekit.co/mcp
This one URL works in every supported AI tool. You do not need a Client ID or Client secret. You authorize with a standard OAuth sign-in using your Spekit login.
The steps are similar everywhere: open your tool's connector settings, add a custom connector, paste the URL, then sign in with Spekit. A few tools need a developer setting turned on first, a few are admin managed, and a few use a config file instead of a settings screen. None of that changes the URL, the sign-in, or your Spekit permissions.
Pick your tool for the full steps:
- Connect Spekit to Claude
- Connect Spekit to ChatGPT
- Connect Spekit to Gemini CLI
- Connect Spekit to Gong
- Connect Spekit to other AI tools
6. Start using it
Once you are connected:
| To do this | Go here |
|---|---|
| Search your library and cite approved answers | Find and cite content with Spekit MCP |
| Draft, create, and update Speks and Topics | Create and update content with Spekit MCP |

| Fix a connection or a failed request | Troubleshooting Spekit MCP |
| Answer a common question | Spekit MCP FAQs |
7. Best practices
| Practice | Why it helps |
|---|---|
| Name the Topic, Company, or Deal Room in your request | The AI tool can go straight to the right content instead of searching broadly. |
| Ask for the source Spek alongside the answer | You get a citation you can share, not just a summary. |
| Draft in the conversation, then create in Spekit | The write tools file the content for you, so nothing is lost in copy and paste. |
| Review anything the AI creates before you share it | Content created through the connector is live Spekit content under your name. |
| Keep your Spekit role current | Access through the connector only ever matches your Spekit role. |
