1. Finding content
Does listing my Topics return my full Topic and subtopic hierarchy?
One level at a time. It returns top-level Topics with their direct subtopics. If a subtopic has its own subtopics, ask your AI tool to get that subtopic by id to see what is nested inside it.
Does search return the full body of a Spek or asset?
✅ Yes. For natively authored Speks, and for imported and synced file assets such as PDFs, slide decks, and external documents, the body is included in search results. Each result also carries the Topics it is filed under, a direct link to it in Spekit, and when it was last updated, so your AI tool can answer, cite, and link in one step.
What else can I look up?
Your Topics, your companies, your Deal Rooms, your Deal Room Templates and what each one contains, your content templates, and your content style guide. Your AI tool can also look up a buyer's website so a Deal Room can use their branding.
2. Creating and updating content
Can I use the connector to read and write content in Spekit?
✅ Yes. The connector supports both reads and writes. You can search content, create and update Speks, and create Topics, Deal Rooms, and companies.
Can I edit content that already exists, or only create new content?
Both, for Speks. You can update a Spek's title, body, or Topic assignment. Topics, companies, and Deal Rooms are create-only through the connector. Editing or deleting those is not supported yet.
Can I create content from one of my company's templates?
✅ Yes. List your company's templates, get a specific template's body and fill instructions, then create content from it. This keeps new content in your established layout instead of a blank page.
Do I have to file a new Spek under a Topic?
Yes. Every Spek has to go under at least one Topic that already exists. If the Topic name does not match one of yours, nothing is created. Ask your AI tool to list your Topics first, or to create the Topic before the Spek.
Can I create a Slides deck?
Not yet. Creating a Slides deck directly from your AI tool is coming soon. For now, ask your AI tool to create the content as a Spek, then open it in Spekit and use Present Mode.
Can I turn external sharing on or off for a piece of content?
✅ Yes, for a Spek or a file. Account Admins, Team Admins, and Experts can change the share setting on Team Hub content. Viewers cannot, and asking through an AI tool does not change that.
What happens if a write operation fails?
You get a real error. The connector returns a message describing what went wrong, rather than a generic failure. Write operations are validated before anything is saved, so a failed write does not leave partial content behind.
Does every write ask me to confirm first?
By default, yes, but the setting lives in your AI tool rather than in Spekit. Most AI tools let you set an individual tool to always allow, which means it runs without asking. Check your connector settings if you want to know how yours behaves.
3. Deal Rooms
What is the difference between create content and create Deal Room content?
Where the Spek lives. Create content makes a Spek inside a Topic in your main Spekit knowledge base. Create Deal Room content makes a Spek inside a specific Deal Room, tied to that deal's company context.
Can I add content I already have to a Deal Room?
✅ Yes. Your AI tool can add existing Speks and files to a Deal Room. It asks whether to add a synced copy, which stays linked to the original, or a customizable copy you can tailor for that buyer. Only content marked shareable can be added.
Can I start a Deal Room from a template?
✅ Yes. Your AI tool can list your Deal Room Templates, show you what one contains, and create a room from it.
Can the connector share a Deal Room with a buyer?
No. A Deal Room becomes viewable once you share it, and that happens in the Spekit Hub (Web App). Your AI tool shows you a link as soon as the room exists, but creating a room is not the same as sharing it. The connector also cannot tell you whether a room has already been shared.
Can I change a Deal Room after it is created?
Not through the connector. Branding can be set when the room is created, but renaming, rebranding, and access controls all happen in the Spekit Hub (Web App).
4. Access and permissions
Does the connector respect my Spekit role and permissions?
✅ Yes. Access through the connector matches your existing Spekit role. It is the same set of permissions that apply inside Spekit itself, not a separate or broader grant.
Why can I see fewer tools than a colleague?
You only see the tools your organization has given you access to. You can check which ones you have in your AI tool's connector settings.
Where does connector activity show up?
In your usual dashboards. Calls made through the connector appear in your admin dashboard and in Spekit's analytics, in context. This is the same visibility you have into other ways your team uses Spekit.
5. Plans, cost, and availability
How much does it cost?
It is included free. The capabilities in this release come with every Spekit account at no extra cost. There is no separate seat to buy and no add-on to enable. Anyone with an active Spekit login can use it.
Do I have to use Claude, or can I connect this to another AI tool?
Any tool with custom connectors. Any AI tool that supports adding a custom MCP connector by URL can connect to Spekit. This includes Claude, ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot, Glean, Gemini CLI, Codex CLI, and Gong. See Spekit MCP overview for tool-specific steps.
Why isn't the connector in the AI tool marketplaces yet?
You do not need to wait for it. The connector works today with any AI tool that supports a custom connector by URL. A marketplace listing is mainly about discoverability. It does not change how the connection works or how secure it is. Spekit is in the process of submitting to the marketplaces, and timing depends on each marketplace's own review queue.
