How do I manually update the Spekit extension in Google Chrome?
- Right-click the Spekit extension icon in your browser toolbar and select Manage Extension, or navigate directly to chrome://extensions in your address bar.
- In the top-right corner of the Extensions page, toggle on Developer mode.
⚠️ Note: If the Developer mode toggle is grayed out, your organization may be blocking this. See the Alternative Update Methods section below.
- Once Developer mode is enabled, an Update button will appear in the top-left corner of the page.
- Check the version number currently shown on the Spekit extension card to confirm what version you're running.
- Click the Update button. Chrome will immediately fetch the latest version of all installed extensions from the Chrome Web Store.
- Wait for the confirmation notification to appear at the bottom of the page indicating the update is complete.
💡 Tip: After updating, refresh any open tabs where you use Spekit to ensure the latest version is active.
Microsoft Edge
How do I manually update the Spekit extension in Microsoft Edge?

Alternative Update Methods
What can I do if Developer mode is blocked or the update button isn't available?
If your organization's IT policies prevent you from enabling Developer mode, try one of the following methods instead:
Option 1: Restart your browser
Chrome and Edge download extension updates silently in the background. Restarting your browser applies any updates that have already been downloaded.
- Windows: Close all browser windows completely and reopen the browser.
- macOS: You must fully quit the browser either by using CMD + Q or right-click on the browser's application icon and select 'quit'. Simply closing the window is not enough. Then reopen the browser.
Option 2: Reinstall the extension
Uninstalling and reinstalling the Spekit extension forces your browser to fetch the newest version directly from the store.
