AI Role Play is turned on for your account by Spekit. There is nothing to install and no separate system to configure. This guide covers what to check before you start, how to roll out your first role play, and how to keep it useful after launch.
ℹ️ Role plays only exist as a step inside a Learning Path. There is no separate role play library, and a role play cannot be added to a Spek.
1. What Spekit sets up for you
Most of the setup happens on the Spekit side. Here is the split.
| Item | Who handles it |
|---|---|
| Turning AI Role Play on for your account | Spekit |
| Adding AI Role Play credits to your plan | Spekit, based on your agreement |
| Creating accounts for your reps | Nobody. Reps are set up automatically the first time they open a role play |
| Building role plays | You |
You do not need to connect anything, share an API key, or ask your reps to sign up. If you are not sure whether AI Role Play is on for your account, contact your Customer Success Manager or email support@spekit.co.
2. What reps need
Check these 4 things before you assign a role play to anyone.
| Requirement | Detail |
|---|---|
| Spekit Hub (Web App) | Role plays run in the Web App. A rep who opens one in Sidekick (Chrome Extension) is sent to the Web App |
| A working microphone and camera | A role play is a spoken conversation |
| A network that allows WebSocket connections | Some company firewalls block these. Worth checking with IT before a large rollout |
| An assigned Learning Path | A rep reaches a role play through the Path it sits in |
💡 Pro Tip: Have 1 rep run a test role play on the company network before you assign anything widely. Network restrictions are the most common blocker, and they are easier to fix before 100 reps hit them at once.
3. Before you build your first role play
Four decisions shape everything that follows. Make them before you open the builder.
| Decision | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Which conversation you are certifying | A role play covers 1 conversation at 1 point in the deal, not a whole topic |
| Which Learning Path it belongs in | The role play proves the learning. It should sit after the material, not before it |
| What passing means | Set the first bar at "ready enough for a real call", not "excellent" |
| Who pilots it | Pick a few reps, including 1 strong and 1 new |
For the full design guidance, see [Admin Guide] Build your persona, topics and scoring.
4. Roll out your first role play
- Build the role play and add it as a step in the Learning Path.
- Take it yourself once properly. You should pass.
- Take it once badly on purpose. You should fail.
- Adjust the criteria or the passing score based on those 2 attempts.
- Assign the Path to a small pilot group.
- Review the pilot scores before you widen it.
- Assign the Path to the full team.
💡 Pro Tip: Run the pilot in the same week you plan to launch. Credits are counted per person per calendar month, so piloting late in one month and launching early in the next uses 2 credits for your pilot group instead of 1.
⚠️ Do not assign a new role play to everyone at once. The pilot is what tells you whether the scenario rewards the behavior you actually want.
5. Credits
AI Role Play runs on credits, not licenses. Account Admins can see usage in Spekit settings, under Plan, on the AI Roleplay Usage card.
One credit per user per calendar month. Credits don't reset automatically.
| Rule | Detail |
|---|---|
| What uses a credit | The first time a person creates, edits, or practices a role play in a calendar month |
| What is free after that | Everything else that person does in the same month |
| Do credits reset? | No. They draw down from your plan total until more are added |
| Who is affected when they run out | Only people who have not already used a credit that month. Anyone who has can keep going |
To see who used a credit, click See details on the AI Roleplay Usage card and pick a month. The list shows each person, what they did, and the date. Use Download CSV to export it.
💡 Pro Tip: Check your remaining credits before a big rollout. Assigning a Learning Path with a role play to 50 people who have not practiced that month will use 50 credits.
ℹ️ To add credits, contact your Customer Success Manager or email support@spekit.co.
6. After launch
A role play needs maintenance, like any other content. Use this cadence.
| Task | When |
|---|---|
| Review scores and completion | Weekly during a rollout, then on your normal Learning Path cadence |
| Recalibrate the passing score | After the first full round of attempts, once you can see a real spread |
| Refresh the scenario | Whenever the messaging, pricing, or positioning it tests changes |
| Retire old role plays | When the content they test is retired |
A role play built on old positioning will still certify reps, and it will do it confidently. Put scenarios on the same review cycle as the content they test.
💡 Pro Tip: Put a calendar reminder on the role play, not just on the content. Teams reliably update the Spek and forget the scenario that tests it.
6. Common setup questions
Quick answers to what admins ask most during setup.
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| Do reps need a separate login? | No. They are set up automatically on first use |
| What happens if a rep cannot pass? | They can retry as often as they need. The Learning Path step does not complete until they pass |
| Can I see failed attempts? | Yes. Every attempt is captured with its score, so you can tell a rep who was just under the bar from one who was far below, and both from a rep who never started |
| Where do results show up? | In the Learning Path analytics, and in the Learning Dashboard under the Analytics tab |
| Can a role play live outside a Learning Path? | No |
| Can I use content already in Spekit to build a role play? | Yes. You can build from governed Spekit content, or upload your own files |
