Once you have built your first piece of Deal Room content, these are the features that turn a quick draft into something polished and fast to maintain. This guide covers the typing shortcuts and power features worth knowing, so you can build content without reaching for the toolbar.
ℹ️ These shortcuts work inside the Spek editor and the AI Content Builder. To create content first, see Create content from scratch or Create content from a template.
Typing shortcuts
Each of these works the same way. Type the trigger character while your cursor is in the editor, and a picker pops up. No mouse needed.
| Type this | What it does |
|---|---|
| / | Opens a picklist of components and sections to insert, like headings, cards, tables, dividers, and embeds. |
| @ plus text | Finds content and embeds or nests it inline, the full content, not just a link. |
| @Logo | Inserts your company logo, left-aligned. |
| # plus text | Finds content and inserts a link to it. |
| : | Opens the emoji picker. |
| A video URL | Paste a YouTube, Loom, or Google Drive video URL to embed it. |
| An iframe embed code | Paste an iframe to embed calendars, call recordings, role plays, or forms. |
💡 Pro Tip: Type / anywhere to add structure while you are mid-sentence, so you never break your flow to reach for the top toolbar.
Embed and link content
The @ and # shortcuts both search across your company's Speks, synced files, and other content, but they do different things.
| Shortcut | Use it to |
|---|---|
| @ | Embed or nest the full content inline, like pulling a case study or a one-pager into a new page without rebuilding it. |
| # | Insert a link to the content instead of the full content. |
| @Logo | Drop in your organization's logo without hunting down a file to upload. |
💡 Pro Tip: The search behind @ and # returns up to 15 results. If what you want is not in the first few, keep scrolling rather than assuming it is missing.
Web search in the AI Content Builder
When you need information Spekit does not already have, like public details about a prospect's company, industry context, or recent news, you can pull it in with a web search.
- In the AI Content Builder, type /google followed by your search query and a period, then your prompt, all in one action.
- The builder runs the search and generates content from it in a single step.
- You can combine it with attached sources, for example /google plus a Gong call, so it draws from both at once.
💡 Pro Tip: Use /google to add a prospect's recent news or a public stat to a business case, so the content feels current and specific to them.
Reusable refinement prompts
Keep these handy. They work on almost anything you are polishing.
- Keep everything the same, but simplify it.
- Make this easier to scan for a busy reader.
- Improve mobile readability.
- Reduce text and increase spacing.
- Group related content more clearly.
- Turn the second section into a card grid so it is easier to scan.
- Shorten the intro to two sentences and make the tone more direct for an executive audience.
💡 Pro Tip: Refine in small steps. One focused follow-up prompt gives you more control than one big prompt trying to fix everything.
Best practices
| Best practice | Why it helps |
|---|---|
| Learn the trigger characters | Building with / @ # and : is far faster than clicking through menus. |
| Use @ to reuse, not rebuild | Embed an existing case study or one-pager instead of writing it again. |
| Add web context with /google | Public, current details make a business case feel specific to the buyer. |
| Iterate with small prompts | Small refinements are faster and more predictable than one giant rewrite. |
