[Rep Guide] Create content from scratch with the AI Content Builder

Sometimes no template is close enough to what you need, or you just want a blank canvas. This guide shows you how to build a piece of Deal Room content from nothing, using the editor and the AI Content Builder. You can type it yourself, or attach sources and let AI draft it for you.

ℹ️ This covers creating a brand-new piece of content inside a Deal Room. To start from a saved template instead, see Create content from a template. For how the AI Content Builder works in depth, see the Spekit AI Content Creation section.

Step 1: Open a blank Spek

  1. In your Deal Room, click + Content or + Add content at the bottom.
  2. Under Create new content, click Start from scratch.
  3. The Create Spek editor opens. At the top, you can switch between Doc and Slides. Leave it on Doc for a standard page.

💡 Pro Tip: The Doc and Slides toggle lets you build either a document or a slide deck in the same editor. For a deck you can present live, see Create a deck or slides with Present Mode.

Step 2: Know what is in the editor

A quick tour of what is available as you build.

Tool What it does
AI Content Builder Opens the AI panel to generate, refine, and format content.
Text formatting (the T menu) Bold, italic, underline, strikethrough, headings, font size, family, and color.
Lists and alignment Bulleted lists, numbered lists, indentation, and text alignment.
Insert Embed a PDF, upload a file, insert a table, link, emoji, code, block quote, or divider.
Videos and images Paste a YouTube, Loom, or Google Drive video URL to embed it.
Iframes Paste an iframe to embed calendars, call recordings, role plays, or forms.

💡 Pro Tip: Type / for quick toolbar actions, @ to search for content to link or embed, and : to add emojis.

Step 3: Add context sources, then prompt

The AI Content Builder can draft from your own materials instead of you typing everything. You give it context first, using the Add context sources section near the bottom of the panel, then you write your prompt.

There are 3 source types. You pick one at a time using the buttons.

Source type What it does
Transcripts Pulls in recent call data. If Gong is connected, your calls show here to add as context. If Gong is not connected, you see a Request to connect button, plus an Upload transcript option so you can add a call transcript manually.
Spekit Uses your existing Spekit content as context. Opens a Search Spekit field where you find the Spek you want and add it.
Web Runs a web search and adds what it finds to your sources. Type a search term, then click Add. You can add up to 1 web source this way.

How it fits together: add one or more sources first, then type your prompt in the box below. The builder uses the sources you added plus your prompt to generate or refine content directly in the editor.

Example prompts:

  • Turn this call into a competitive battlecard.

  • Create new content based on the attached materials. Structure the page with a short overview at the top, followed by clearly labeled sections grouped into cards. Keep the tone professional and easy to understand.

💡 Pro Tip: Be specific. Instead of "summarize," try "Create an executive summary for a CFO focusing on ROI and timeline." Adding a specific Spek as a source, like a competitor overview, keeps the draft grounded in your approved content.

💡 Pro Tip: No Gong? Use Upload transcript to add a call transcript by hand, so you still get call-based content without the integration.

Step 4: Turn notes into content

You can paste rough notes straight into the editor and have AI shape them.

  1. Paste your raw call notes into the editor. The editor usually holds more text than the chat box.
  2. Prompt the builder, for example "Turn these rough notes into an executive summary."
  3. Generate, make quick edits, and your content is ready.

Step 5: Publish

When your content is ready:

  1. Set the Spek title. This is required.
  2. Choose the Type and any other required fields.
  3. Click Publish content to make it live in the room.

💡 Pro Tip: Only externally shareable content shows to buyers. If a piece should stay internal, keep it internal only. See Use customizable content.

Best practices

Best practice Why it helps
Attach sources before prompting The AI drafts from your real materials, not from scratch, so the output is accurate.
Be specific in your prompt Naming the audience and the focus gets you a usable draft faster.
Keep the layout clean Cards and clear headings make the content easy for a buyer to scan.
Review before publishing AI drafts are a strong start, but always read for accuracy before it goes to a buyer.

💡 Pro Tip: Build one strong custom piece per deal, like a tailored business case, and let existing library content cover the rest.

Examples

  • A tailored business case. You attach the buyer's discovery call and your standard business-case template as sources, then prompt the builder to draft an executive summary focused on ROI and timeline. You edit a few lines, set the title, and publish. A custom, deal-specific asset in minutes.

  • Cleaning up messy notes. You have rough notes from a call. You paste them into the editor, prompt "Turn these into a clean recap with next steps," generate, tidy the result, and publish it to the room so the buyer has a clear summary.
