The Spekit Slack integration brings your governed Spekit knowledge into Slack, so you can ask questions and get cited AI answers, and get deal room engagement signals in the channel where your deal team already works, without leaving Slack.
Everything you do runs as you, scoped to your existing Spekit role. Answers are permission-aware, so you only ever see content you are already entitled to see in the Spekit Hub (Web App).
📌 Quick-Jump Topics
1. What's Changed (Existing Users Start Here)
This release is a major change from the older Slack integration, not a small update. Here is what is different:
- AI answers replace keyword search. For organizations with AI enabled, /spekit and a question now returns a cited AI answer instead of a list of keyword matches.
- Deal room notifications are new. You can connect a deal room to a Slack channel and get an alert the moment a prospect engages.
- Creating Speks from Slack is gone for now. The old /spekit create command is not part of this release.
⚠️ Action required: Because the integration changed, every existing user must disconnect and reconnect once before the new features will work. The steps are in Setup below, under "Already using Spekit in Slack? Reconnect first."
2. What is the Spekit Slack Integration?
Your team already spends the day in Slack. Until now, getting an approved answer or seeing prospect activity meant leaving Slack for another tool.
The integration closes that gap. Type /spekit and a question to get a cited answer from your approved content. Connect a deal room to a channel to get a notification the moment a prospect engages. Connect once and it works across all channels and DMs.
3. What You Can Do
🔎 Ask Spekit (AI answers)
Get an approved, cited answer without leaving the channel you are in. The answer is private to you until you choose to share it.
| Command | What it does |
|---|---|
| /spekit [your question] | Returns a cited AI answer from your approved content, private to you, with Post to channel and Dismiss buttons. For organizations without AI, this returns the existing keyword search results. |
🔔 Deal Room notifications
Get a Slack alert the moment a prospect views a deal room or opens content inside it, in the channel where your deal team works.
| Command | What it does |
|---|---|
| /spekit dealroom | Opens the modal to connect or disconnect deal rooms for this channel. /spekit dealrooms and /spekit dr do the same thing. |
| /invite @spekit | Adds the Spekit bot to a channel. Required before you map a deal room. |
Working Within Your Permissions
Every answer runs as you. What you can see through Slack matches what your Spekit account can already see. This is enforced on the backend, not just in Slack. A user cannot get an answer from content they are not entitled to, even by asking.
4. Who Can Use It
You sign in with your existing Spekit login. Access depends on your account and your organization's setup.
- Anyone can set up the Spekit app in Slack. Adding the app to your workspace is not limited to Slack admins or workspace owners.
- Anyone with a connected Spekit account can use /spekit to ask questions, once their organization has the integration enabled in Spekit.
- AI answers require AI to be enabled for your organization. Without AI, /spekit returns keyword search results, unchanged from before.
- Deal room notifications can be set up by any collaborator on the deal room.
5. Setup
🔗 The connect command
/spekit connect
Run this once in any Slack channel or DM. You authorize with a standard OAuth sign-in using your Spekit login. After that, /spekit commands work everywhere.
⚠️ Already using Spekit in Slack? Reconnect first
This step is required. If your workspace already had the older Spekit Slack integration, every user has to reconnect once to move to the new version. Until you do this, the new features will not work for you.
In any Slack channel or DM:
- Type /spekit disconnect. You will see a message that you have been disconnected from Slack.
- Type /spekit connect. You will get a message asking you to connect your Spekit account.
- Click Connect my Spekit account.
- On the page that opens, click Allow.
- Go back to Slack. You will see a message that Spekit is connected and you can now start using Spekit in Slack.
You only need to do this once.
NOTE: Deal room to channel mappings from before are not restored automatically after reconnecting. They need to be mapped again. Click here to learn how.
💡 Pro Tip (Admins): Send one short Slack message to all reps with a single call to action: run /spekit disconnect, then /spekit connect. Keep it to 3 sentences so the step does not get lost.
Connect for the first time
If the app is already enabled for your workspace and you have never connected:
- In any channel or DM, type /spekit connect.
- You get a private message with a link. Click Connect my Spekit account.
- Click Allow to grant access.
- Go back to Slack. You will see that Spekit is connected. You can now use /spekit anywhere.
💡 Pro Tip (Admins): Enable the integration before you announce it. Reps who try /spekit before it is turned on will hit a dead end and disengage.
