Have questions about Spekit Slack Integration? Weβre here to help! Common questions about what the connector does and how it works.
π Quick-Jump Topics
General
Is this a new Slack app, or an upgrade to the existing one?
It is an upgrade to the existing Spekit Slack app.
I already used the old integration. Do I need to do anything?
β Yes. You need to reconnect once. Run /spekit disconnect, then /spekit connect. See the Overview & Setup article.
Does every user need to connect their Spekit account?
β Yes. Each user connects once with /spekit connect. After that, /spekit commands work across all channels and DMs.
Who can add the Spekit app to Slack?
Anyone. Setting up the Spekit app in your Slack workspace is not limited to Slack admins or workspace owners.
What happens to the old /spekit keyword search?
For organizations with AI enabled, /spekit now returns a direct AI answer instead of a keyword result list. For organizations without AI, the keyword search is unchanged.
Ask Spekit
Can anyone in our Slack workspace use /spekit?
Only users who have a Spekit account, whose organization has the integration enabled, and who have connected. Users without a connected account get a prompt to run /spekit connect.
Does the AI answer respect content permissions?
β Yes. Answers are permission-aware. You only get answers from content you are entitled to see in Spekit.
Is the AI answer visible to the whole channel?
β No. The answer appears privately in a thread visible only to you. You can then click Post to channel to share it, or Dismiss to discard it.
Can I ask follow-up questions?
You can keep asking, but each /spekit question is treated as a fresh query. It is not a multi-turn conversation yet. Type /spekit and your follow-up in the same thread.
What if Spekit cannot find an answer?
If there is no high-confidence match in your organization's approved content, Spekit returns a "no results" response rather than guessing. This is on purpose, to avoid giving you incorrect or irrelevant information. Try rephrasing the question in full sentences, or flag it to a content Expert or admin, since it may be a gap worth filling in your knowledge base.
Deal Room notifications
Who can map a deal room to a Slack channel?
Any collaborator on the deal room can map it from a Slack channel.
Do I need to be a Spekit admin to set up notifications?
β No. Any deal room collaborator can create the mapping from Slack. Managing the notification toggles is done inside the Spekit deal room settings.
What happens if the Spekit bot is not invited to the channel?
The notification fails on Slack's side. You get a prompt to invite the bot. Run /invite @spekit, then map again.
Can I control which events trigger notifications?
β Yes. Views, Opens, and Shares can each be turned on or off on their own inside the deal room settings.
What happens to notifications if a deal room is deleted?
They simply stop. The mapped Slack channel is untouched and no message is posted.
Can one Slack channel connect to more than one deal room?
β Yes. You can select more than one deal room when you map. One deal room can also connect to more than one channel.
Data and privacy
What data moves between Spekit and Slack?
Here is what flows in each direction.
From Slack to Spekit:
- The question you type after /spekit, so Spekit can generate an answer
- Your Slack identity, linked to your Spekit account once during /spekit connect
- The deal rooms you select when you map a channel
From Spekit to Slack:
- AI answers and their source links, shown privately to you until you post them
- Deal room notifications: prospect email, whether it is a first visit, deal room name, time in room, items viewed with time on each, and whether the contact exists in Salesforce
- Command responses, such as your account info and the help text
What does not move:
- Spekit does not pull in your channel conversations. It works only from the commands and questions you send it, such as a /spekit question or a deal room mapping.
Do the AI answers respect content permissions?
β Yes. Answers are permission-aware and run as you, scoped to your existing Spekit role. You only get answers from content you are entitled to see in Spekit. This is enforced on the backend, not just in Slack, so a user cannot pull content they are not entitled to, even by asking.
What prospect data is posted into Slack channels?
Deal room notifications include the prospect email and their activity. Anyone in the mapped channel can see this.
Best practice: Map deal rooms to private deal channels, not public or company-wide ones, because notifications contain prospect email addresses.
How does the account connection work?
Each user links their own Spekit account with /spekit connect using a standard OAuth sign-in. No password is shared with Slack. Running /spekit disconnect unlinks your account and removes the linked-channel status from deal rooms you had mapped.
