1. What is the Dashboard Agent?
The Dashboard Agent is an AI-powered chat assistant that lives inside your analytics dashboards. It understands the data on your screen and lets you interact with it conversationally — asking follow-up questions, drilling into specific subsets, or requesting summaries — all without needing to know how to query a database or build a report.
What you can do with it:
- Ask follow-up questions about any chart or table
- Drill into specific subsets of data
- Re-aggregate or summarize results
- Detect anomalies or highlight key insights
- Use voice dictation to ask questions hands-free
- Attach files or images to provide additional context
What it can't do:
- Edit or make changes to the dashboard — to modify a tile or visualization, exit the chat and edit the dashboard directly
- Answer questions about data outside of the topics used in the current dashboard
2. Getting Started with the Dashboard Agent
The Dashboard Agent is available to all Spekit users who have access to the Analytics tab — no additional setup required.
- Open the Spekit Web App.
- Navigate to the Analytics tab.
- Select any Dashboard.
- Click the ✨ sparkle icon in the bottom right corner of the dashboard to open the Dashboard Agent.
3. How to Open and Navigate the Dashboard Agent
Once you click the ✨ sparkle icon, a chat panel will open to the left of your dashboard. From the chat panel you can:
| Feature | What It Does |
|---|---|
| Chat History | View previous conversations with the Dashboard Agent |
| New Chat | Start a fresh conversation and clear the current chat history |
| Topic Selection | Auto-select a topic or choose a specific topic available in that dashboard |
| File Attachment | Attach files to provide additional context alongside your question |
| Voice Dictation | Speak your question instead of typing it |
⚠️ Note: Closing the chat panel will clear your current chat history. Use Chat History to review past conversations before closing.
4. How to Ask Questions and Focus on Specific Charts
You can ask the Dashboard Agent broad questions about the entire dashboard, or scope it to a specific chart for more targeted answers.
To focus on a specific chart:
Option 1: Click directly on a chart within the chat panel to focus the agent on that tile.
Option 2:
- Click the ellipsis menu (...) on any data table or chart.
- Select Ask a follow-up question.
- The Dashboard Agent will open focused on that specific chart.
The focused chart will appear as a chip in the chat input so you always know what data the agent is referencing.
To unfocus from a specific chart:
Click the X on the chart chip in the chat input to return to a full dashboard view.
5. How to Attach Files and Images
You can paste images directly from your clipboard into the Dashboard Agent to provide visual context alongside your questions — useful for referencing external data, screenshots, or reports.
To attach an image:
- Copy an image to your clipboard.
- In the chat input, paste using Cmd+V (Mac) or Ctrl+V (Windows/Linux).
- The image will appear as a chip in the chat input, confirming it's ready to send.
- Type your question and send.
You can also attach files directly using the attachment icon in the chat panel for additional context.
⚠️ Browser Note: Image pasting is supported in Chrome and Safari only. Firefox does not currently support pasting images into text inputs.
6. Best Practices for Getting the Most Out of the Dashboard Agent
The Dashboard Agent is a powerful tool, but like any AI, the quality of your output depends on the quality of your input. Following these best practices will help you ask better questions, get more relevant answers, and make smarter decisions faster.
| ✅ Best Practice (Do This) | ❌ Avoid This! |
|---|---|
| Focus on a specific chart before asking detailed questions — scoped questions get more accurate, relevant answers. | Asking broad questions across the entire dashboard when you only need insight from one table. |
| Be specific in your questions — e.g., "Which team had the lowest activation rate last month?" gets better results than "Show me activation." | Vague questions like "Tell me about this data" — the more context you give, the better the answer. |
| Use voice dictation when you're not sure how to phrase a question — sometimes speaking naturally produces better prompts than typing. | Giving up if the first answer isn't quite right — try rephrasing or focusing on a specific chart and asking again. |
| Start a new chat when switching to a different topic or dashboard section to keep responses focused and relevant. | Letting one chat session run too long across multiple unrelated questions — context can get muddled. |
| Attach supporting images or files when your question references data outside of the current dashboard. | Assuming the agent has context it doesn't — if your question relies on external information, attach it. |
