Some content in Spekit is set up so you can make your own editable copy for a specific buyer, without changing the original. This lets you personalize a proven asset for one deal while everyone else still uses the standard version. This guide covers how to customize content and what to know about internal-only content.
ℹ️ Customization must be enabled on a piece of content by your admin. To add content that does not need personalizing, see Ways to add content to a Deal Room.
What customizable content is
Some Google Docs, Slides, and Sheets are set up by your admin to be customizable. That means you can generate your own editable copy for a specific buyer, without touching the original that everyone else uses.
You will see a Customize option only on content your admin has enabled for it. If you do not see it, the file is not set up for customization, or your permissions on it do not include download-and-copy access. Ask your admin if you think it should be there.
💡 Pro Tip: When adding from the Spekit library, look for the Add as customizable copy option. It adds a copy you can edit for this deal, so your changes do not affect the original.
Step 1: Customize your own copy
- Open the content in Spekit.
- Click Customize to generate a personal copy.
- Confirm in the pop-up by clicking Customize again.
- The file opens in a new tab, fully editable, and saved to your own Google Drive.
- Use Add to Deal Room to add it to the room.
ℹ️ The first time you customize, your Google account needs to be connected to Spekit and the Spekit Chrome Extension installed. You are prompted for this automatically, or you can connect ahead of time in your Spekit settings.
Internal-only content
Not every piece of content should be visible to a buyer. Content can be marked internal only, which means it stays with your team and is not shown to external viewers.
- A piece marked internal only shows in your room with an Unavailable label to indicate a buyer cannot see it.
- Use the content's ... menu to switch a piece to Internal only or back.
💡 Pro Tip: Keep internal notes, pricing math, or strategy pieces internal only, so they never show to the buyer even though they live in the same room.
Best practices
| Best practice | Why it helps |
|---|---|
| Customize for buyer-specific edits | You tailor a proven asset without changing the version everyone uses. |
| Mark sensitive pieces internal only | Keeps internal content out of the buyer's view. |
| Check for the Unavailable label | Tells you at a glance which pieces the buyer cannot see. |
Examples
Personalizing a one-pager. Your team has a customizable one-pager. You click Customize, edit it for this buyer's use case, and add your copy to the room. The original stays untouched for everyone else.
Keeping notes internal. You want internal deal notes in the room for your team, but not for the buyer. You mark them internal only, and they show with an Unavailable label, so the buyer never sees them.
