Using the Spekit Chrome Extension: The Dock, Sidekick, and Settings

Once the Spekit Chrome Extension is installed and pinned, here's how to work with the Dock, expand Sidekick, and adjust the settings worth knowing on day one.

1. Understanding the Spekit Dock

The Dock is a small, draggable tab that sits on the side of your browser, giving you one-click access to AI Sidekick and your team's knowledge without breaking your flow.

Visible — a red dot appears when there's a new notification, so you never miss an update.

Movable — drag it anywhere along the side of the screen.

Your Admin typically enables the Dock organization-wide on the sites where Spekit content lives, but you can control it yourself at any time — see the settings below.

2. How to Expand Sidekick

By default, Sidekick opens at a compact size. You can expand it any time you need more room to view tables, long content, or large files.

  1. Open the Spekit sidebar (from the Chrome Extension).
  2. Drag to resize: Hover over the edge of Sidekick's border until the resize handle appears, then click and drag to expand or shrink it.
  3. Double-click to toggle: Double-click the edge to quickly switch between an expanded view and the default size.

This resize behavior is session-based; once you close Sidekick, it will reset to its default size.

Why You'll Love This

  • No more cramped views: Table viewing issues are now a thing of the past.
  • Better large-file experience: View long content and large files comfortably without breaking your flow.
  • Stay in context: Get more screen space without needing to navigate away or open new pages.

3. Extension Settings You Should Know About

All of the settings below live in the same place:

  1. Open the Spekit sidebar (from the Chrome Extension).
  2. Click the ellipsis (…) in the top-right corner.
  3. Select Extension Settings (sometimes labeled just Settings).

From there, you can control:

SettingWhat it does
Show sidebar dockToggle the Dock on or off to disable or hide the dock on a URL
Show help text icons (Display Spek Icons)Toggle whether embedded Speks appear on supported pages
Open Spek Icons On: Click or HoverChoose whether a Spek appears when you click an icon, or automatically when you hover over it
ZoomSize and scale of the extension on your screen.

A quick recommendation for new users: leave the Dock on and Spek icons set to Click at first — it's the least intrusive way to get a feel for where Spekit shows up before you decide whether Hover feels faster for you.
