Once the connector is set up, you can find, read, and update Spekit content from your AI tool. This article covers finding content and keeping it current, with an example prompt for each task. For creating new content, see How to create content and Deal Rooms with Spekit MCP.
📌 Quick-Jump Topics
1. Find and use approved content
Search, browse, and pull cited answers from your governed content.
Search for an answer
Ask your AI tool a question, and it searches your governed Spekit content and returns an approved answer. Answers are drawn from approved content and scoped to your permissions, not a best guess.
Example prompt
"What is our positioning against [Competitor], and what objections come up at the evaluation stage? Give me a short prep brief."
💡 Pro Tip: Be specific. Name the competitor, the deal stage, or the audience. A specific prompt gets a specific answer.
Get a cited answer
Ask for the content you need, for example a data-processing addendum to send a prospect. The connector finds the matching content and answers directly, with a trail back to the source.
Example prompt
"Find our data processing addendum and give me a summary I can send a prospect. Include the source."
💡 Pro Tip: Ask for the source so you can trace the answer back to the approved content it came from.
Browse your topics
Ask your AI tool to list your topics. It returns each top-level topic with its direct subtopics. If a subtopic has its own subtopics nested underneath, ask it to get that subtopic by id to see the deeper level. The hierarchy comes back one level at a time.
Example prompt
"What does Spekit already cover on [topic]? Show me the subtopics."
Check what already exists before creating something new
Before writing new content, ask your AI tool what Spekit already covers on a topic. Drill into a subtopic if the first answer is not deep enough. This helps you build on what is there instead of duplicating it.
Read a full Spek or asset
Search results include the full body for natively authored Speks, and for imported and synced file assets such as PDFs, slide decks, and external documents. You can also ask for a single Spek's full body and its topic assignments.
2. Update an existing Spek
Change part of a Spek without recreating it. You do not have to recreate content to fix it.
- Ask your AI tool to read the Spek you want to change.
- Tell it what to update. You can change the title, the body, or the topic assignment.
- Review the change.
- Confirm. The Spek is updated in Spekit. Everything you did not change stays the same.
Example prompt
"Read the [Spek name] Spek and update only the pricing section to [new pricing]. Leave everything else the same."
💡 Pro Tip: Name the exact section you want changed so the rest stays untouched.
3. What can and cannot be changed
A quick reference for what the connector can edit.
- Speks: can be updated after creation. You can change the title, body, and topic assignment.
- Topics, companies, and deal rooms: are create-only. They cannot be renamed or edited through the connector after they are created.
- Nothing can be deleted through the connector. To remove content, do it directly in Spekit.
For the full list, see Troubleshooting Spekit MCP.
4. Browse companies and Deal Rooms
List the companies and deal rooms you can access.
- Ask your AI tool to list companies visible to you. You can filter by name.
- Ask it to list deal rooms visible to you. You can filter by name. The list returns each deal room's id, name, and share and internal links.
Example prompt
"List the deal rooms I can access, filtered by [name]."
💡 Pro Tip: The connector cannot tell you whether a deal room already has external sharing turned on. Check the sharing status directly in Spekit.
Working within your permissions
Everything you find and change through the connector matches your existing Spekit role. The connector does not give you access beyond what you already have in Spekit. User and permission management stays in Spekit admin settings and cannot be done through the connector.
