Connecting & Syncing Content
Who can connect to a source and sync content?
Spekit Account Admins, Team Admins, and Experts can connect and sync content into Spekit Topics. Deal Rooms users can connect and sync content for Deal Rooms.
Will my entire content platform sync automatically?
❌ No. You must select specific files or folders to sync. Only content explicitly synced by an Admin or Expert will appear in Spekit.
Can other Admins or Experts import content from my connected platform?
❌ No. Each Admin or Expert must connect their own account to import and sync files.
What file types can be synced with Spekit?
Google Drive: Docs, Sheets, Slides, PDFs, PPTx, Docx, XLSx
SharePoint: PDFs, PPTx, Docx, XLSx
Confluence: Pages
How can I identify synced content?
Synced files display a source icon (Google Drive, SharePoint, Confluence) and a “Go to Source” button for easy navigation.
What happens if a user doesn’t have permission to view the source content?
Users can access the synced content in Spekit, but cannot open the original file if they lack permission in the source system.
Google Drive: Users without permission see the standard “Request Access” prompt.
Will updates to source files be reflected in Spekit?
✅ Yes.Updates are automatically synced within a few hours. Users can manually refresh with the Force Sync option if needed.
What happens if I disconnect my account?
Previously imported content remains in Spekit, but future changes will not sync. Other connected accounts can continue syncing.
What happens if a file is deleted or moved in the content platform?
Deleted: File disappears from Spekit after the next sync
Moved: File remains accessible; the Go to Source button is automatically updated
How can I sync files in the “Shared with me” section of Google Drive?
Access your My Drive in the picker and search for the file. “Shared with me” isn’t a folder, so direct selection is required.
Can I sync Google Drive shortcuts into Spekit?
❌ No. Only files directly in My Drive or Team Drives can be synced.
If I sync a SharePoint file and later upload a new version with the same name, will it auto-update?
Replace option used: File keeps the same ID → auto-updates in Spekit
New upload: File gets a new ID → must manually re-sync
Best practice: Always use the Replace option in SharePoint when updating files.
Enhanced Google Drive File Viewing (Updated July 2025)
What’s changed about Google Drive file previews?
Files now display in their original format using Google’s native viewer, instead of converting to PDF, improving formatting accuracy.
What’s the difference between “Accessing in Spekit” and “Viewing in Spekit”?
Accessing: Content is available within Spekit via search, AI Sidekick, or recommendations
Viewing: Preview the file directly in Spekit using Google’s viewer
Why do I need permissions in both Spekit and Google Drive to view a file?
The Google native viewer respects Google Drive permissions. Access in Spekit alone is not enough.
What happens if a user can access content in Spekit but lacks Google Drive permissions?
- For internal users: If they have a Google account, they'll see Google's standard "Request Access" prompt directly within the Spekit preview. Once you grant them access in Google Drive, the content will display as expected.
- For external users: Same flow as internal users, however if they can't log into Google for any reason, they can use the fallback viewing experience and opt to "view as a PDF" (our previous method).
What should I do to ensure synced Google Drive content is viewable for everyone in Spekit?
To ensure a smooth viewing experience for all users, especially for externally shared content (like trackable links or Deal Rooms), we recommend:
-
Reviewing your Google Drive sharing settings:
- Set the content to "Anyone with the link can view," OR
- Explicitly share the content with the intended recipients in Google Drive.
What parts of the Spekit experience are NOT changing with this update?
Your synced Google Drive content remains fully accessible in Spekit. Users can still:
- Search for and find the content.
- Use AI Sidekick to ask questions and get answers about the content.
- Download files.
