[Admin & Rep Guide] Use and create templates

Templates give you an approved, on-brand starting point for anything you build in Spekit, whether that is internal enablement, Deal Room content, or anything in between.

ℹ️ Everyone can use templates. Creating and publishing team templates is limited to Account Admins and Team Admins. Viewers can use templates if Deal Rooms are enabled for your organization.

1. Use a template

Open the template picker, find the one you want, then select Use this template to open it in the AI Content Builder.

To skip templates entirely, select Start from scratch.

2. Find the right one

The picker gives you three ways to narrow the list.

ToolWhat it does
FiltersTeam, Spekit, or Created by you
PopularThe most used templates, shown at the top
SortOrder All Templates by Recently Created or A-Z

💡 Pro Tip: Start with Popular. If your team has already settled on a template for a situation, that is usually the one to use.

3. Create a template from scratch

You can build one directly from the + New flow.

  1. Open the Spekit Hub (Web App).
  2. Start a new Spek from + New.
  3. Build your content, or prompt the AI Content Builder to draft it.
  4. Set the Type field to Template.
  5. Add Template instructions describing the use case and the audience.
  6. Turn the external sharing toggle on if you want it in the Deal Room gallery, or leave it off to keep it internal.
  7. Save your changes.

💡 Pro Tip: Template instructions help both the AI and your users get the most out of the template. Be specific about the use case and the audience.

4. How to Convert Existing Content into a Template

Already have a Spek that works well and want to make it reusable? You can convert any existing piece of content into a template directly from the editor.

  1. Find the Spek you want to convert
  2. Click Edit
  3. Scroll down to the Type field
  4. Change the type from Content to Template
  5. Add Template Instructions — describe what the template is for and how it should be used (e.g. "Executive summary for late-stage enterprise deals — helps reps frame business impact and align stakeholders before a final review")
  6. Toggle Template for external use on if you want it available in the Deal Room template gallery and shareable externally
  7. Save your changes

5. Find templates in search

Templates appear directly in search results. Look for the Templates tab to find one by name without opening the picker.

6. Best practices

Best practiceWhy it matters
Use a team template before building your ownIt is already approved and on brand, which saves you a review

Be specific in your instructionsVague instructions produce vague drafts
