Connect Gong to Spekit once, and your whole team gets call insights in the AI Sidekick automatically. Setup is a one-time configuration by a Spekit Account Admin, coordinated with the Gong Technical Administrator. It takes about 5 to 10 minutes. This guide covers who can connect, the steps, and what happens after.
ℹ️ Who this is for: Spekit Account Admins connecting Gong. There is no per-user setup. Once connected, every licensed user with the right extension version is enabled automatically.
1. Before you start
The Spekit Account Admin completing setup must also be the Gong Technical Administrator, or invite the Gong Technical Administrator into the Spekit instance. Coordination between the two is essential to finish the connection.
🔍 Need to find your Gong Admin? In Gong, click your profile avatar, then My settings, then scroll to Technical administrators, then Show All, then click the admin's name to email them.
2. Setup steps
- In the Spekit Hub (Web App), go to Settings, then Connections.
- Find the Gong tile and click Connect.
- When prompted, log in to Gong with the appropriate admin account. In the pop-up, click Connect, then Allow Spekit to access your Gong account.
- Back in Spekit, click Complete Gong Setup to open the configuration window.
- In Gong, open Admin Center, then Ecosystem, then Automation Rules.
- Click Add Rule.
- Copy the Spekit Connection URL from the Complete Gong Setup window in Spekit, and paste it into Gong's Enter URL field, under Rule Action.
- Enable Signed JWT header, click Show public key, and copy the key.
- Paste that public key into the designated field in the Complete Gong Setup window in Spekit.
- Name your rule, for example "Spekit Connection," and enable the Rule Status.
- In Spekit, click Save & Connect Gong. A green confirmation pop-up should appear. Click X to close.
- In Gong, click Test Now, select a call to test the connection, then Save. If the test fails, re-check the configuration.
⚠️ Troubleshooting tip: Gong sometimes needs a page refresh to confirm rule status. After saving, return to Automation Rules and refresh to confirm the green checkmark and that the rule is enabled. If issues persist, contact support@spekit.co.
3. After setup
| What to expect | Detail |
|---|---|
| Automatic enablement | All users with valid Gong and Spekit licenses and the Sidekick (Chrome Extension) v2025.44.3 or later are enabled. There is no per-user setup. |
| Near-real-time sync | New call insights are delivered shortly after each call is processed in Gong. |
| No historical backfill | Only calls that happen after connection appear. Past calls are not seeded. |
💡 Pro tip: Before you announce Gong to reps, connect it and confirm your team is on the Sidekick (Chrome Extension) v2025.44.3 or later. Then tell reps that only new calls appear going forward, so no one wonders where their past calls went.
Example rollout: Connect Gong on a Friday, confirm your own next call appears in Sidekick over the following days, then announce to the team the next week with a note that calls populate going forward. That way the first thing reps do is see it working, not wonder why it looks empty
4. Setup best practices
| Best practice | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Line up the Gong Technical Admin first | Setup cannot finish without them. Confirming who it is before you start avoids a mid-setup stall. |
| Use the Test Now step in Gong | Testing the rule against a real call confirms the connection end to end, rather than discovering later that nothing is flowing. |
| Refresh Automation Rules to confirm status | Gong sometimes needs a refresh to show the green checkmark. Confirm the rule is enabled before you consider setup done. |
| Check extension versions before announcing | Reps need Sidekick v2025.44.3 or later. A quick version check up front prevents a wave of "I don't see it" questions. |
| Set expectations about historical calls | Past calls are not seeded. Telling reps up front that only new calls appear saves confusion on day one. |
