Starting a Deal Room Asset From Scratch
Sometimes there's no template close enough to what you need, or you just want a blank canvas. Here's how to build a piece of deal room content from nothing, step by step.
Step 1: Open a blank doc (Spek)
- From inside your Deal Room, click + New (or Create).
- When the start-options prompt appears — template, video/image, iframe, or from scratch — either choose from scratch, or simply dismiss the prompt and start writing directly.
That's it — you're in the same editor whether you started from a template or a blank page.
Step 2: Know what's in the editor
A quick tour of what's available as you build:
- AI Content Builder — opens the AI editor for content creation, design, and formatting (see the Power Features article for how to get the most out of this)
- Text formatting (the "T" menu) — bold, italic, underline, strikethrough, heading dropdown, font size, font family, font color, background color
- Lists and alignment — bulleted lists, numbered lists, indentation, text alignment
- Insert — embed a PDF, upload a file from your computer, insert a table, insert a link, add an emoji, embed code, add a block quote, or insert a horizontal line
- Videos and images — paste a YouTube or Loom URL directly into the editor to embed it. This also works for Google Drive videos.
- Iframes — paste an iframe to embed calendars, call recordings, role plays, or forms
Step 3: Build with prompts in the AI Builder, not just typing
Even from a blank page, you can attach sources (files, Speks, Gong calls) and ask the AI Content Builder to generate net-new content rather than typing everything by hand:
"Create new content based on the attached materials. Structure the page with a short overview at the top, followed by clearly labeled sections grouped into cards. Keep the tone professional and easy to understand."
If you're working from a Gong call:
"Based on the attached call, create a structured summary. Include key discussion points, goals, decisions, and next steps. Present the content in a clean, external-ready layout using cards and clear headings."
Generate by copy pasting notes in the editor
- Copy paste raw notes into Template or empty editor: Copy paste your rough call notes right into the editor (usually holds more characters than the chat)
- Add a Prompt: Tell the builder what to focus on e.g., "Turn these rough notes into an executive summary".
- Generate & Refine: Click generate, make quick inline edits, and your personalized content is ready to send.
Quick recap:
- + New → dismiss the template prompt (or choose "from scratch")
- Use the T menu, Insert menu, and embeds to build the page — or attach sources and prompt the AI to generate it
- Set Title, Topics, Expert, and Share settings
- Use

Pro-Tips for Success
1. Be Specific
Instead of "summarize," try: "Create an executive summary for a CFO focusing on ROI and timeline."
You can even reference specific Spekit content (ie. competitor overview) you want to reference in your content by attaching it as a source.
