What are Flows?
A Flow is an interactive walkthrough of a process that guides a user through a series of steps and/or clicks on their screen. Flows can be used to introduce new users to a process, introduce or update procedures, showcase new software, or reinforce a process. By guiding users through a function, you will be able to onboard users faster, drive tool adoption, and reduce training efforts around new and existing processes.
Note: If you do not see the Flows tab in your Spekit, please contact your CSA or email support@spekit.co
Pre-requisites and Best Practices
- Prerequisites
- Flows Best Practices
- Suggested Tips
- Capturing Forms with fields for Viewers to Complete
Prerequisites
- Flows only have confirmed capability with Salesforce.
- Flows may be used on other websites, but Spekit does not support flows on other applications.
Flows Best Practices
- Write a Spek with each step prior to recording the Flow. This is helpful for the builder to remember each step and always a second form of learning for the process for the viewer. This is helpful in case someone may get stuck in the middle of a flow and want to revisit just that step, if a viewer learns differently than with a walkthrough, etc.
- Practice the steps to think through what will be an Interactive Step versus an Info Step.
- Best practice is to have 8 or fewer steps. Anything larger should be broken down into different Flows and/or Speks.
- Flows should be limited to one application on one page.
- Text within a step of a flow should be limited to 1-2 sentences max.
- Consider the starting point of the flow:
- Start on the page a user should begin rather than using steps to navigate a menu.
- If each user will be editing a record while using the flow, start at a location where the users can search for the record and then proceed to the steps.
Suggested Tips
- Start recording on the actual page a user should begin.
- Set your web browser window to the maximum or full screen
- Refresh your web browser page.
- Before starting to Preview a Flow, hide the utility bar.
- Be sure to use Preview for a Flow so it does not impact analytics.
- When creating a Flow, avoid dynamic elements that may change from user to user.
Capturing Forms with fields for Viewers to Complete
- For fields, select the check box for Info Step then complete the field.
- For forms or overlays, the best practice is to use the Info Step when capturing.
- Instead of clicking the radio button as an element, grab the bigger element as an info step.
